Not to be confused with McDonald's fast foods, this is a bakery located on Union Street, by the entrance to Central Station.
I used to think of them as a Greggs competitor, back before Greggs took over every other street in Glasgow. The one I'm thinking of was on Trongate and didn't have a sit-in area.
This one is much more substantial, with a sit-in area and more of a café than bakery atmosphere about it. It's very clean and the signage is, I must admit, rather resplendent.
The cakes here are good, and they serve everything you could want out of a breakfast, coffee, or sandwich. The scones are pretty damn good, and very inexpensive. Not bad at all! -

I arrived in town over an hour early for my train and with a little time to pass thought l would treat myself. I always remember passing this place for years and never went in once, the reason is really in the name as I've never been to a Macdonald's fast food joint and hopefully never will. The décor looks very 1990's and does need an upgrade. There is a large seating area with one section for take away's and the other to sit in. They do not accept card's only cash. The food is good quick, service is good. I'm sure that l will use more in the future now.

No Happy Meals in here.
Good for a light lunch in comfy surroundings, it almost feels like an Aulds but not quite.
The coffee is nice, with some nice cakes and other fancies on offer in a shiny new building. Not that dear either which also helps, alot.
Picks up a good crowd around lunchtime but it's never crazy busy like Greggs always is making it a good alternative where you can also do that rarest of things, sit down while you're eating.
And why not, I ask. -

By the time I visited here, the "potatoe and leek" debacle had been dealt with, and after having enjoyed a perfectly nourishing, perfectly spelled bowl of potato and leek, I found myself wondering why I hadn't tried this place before, despite walking past every other day.
Breakfasts, coffees, savouries, cakes, sandwiches. It's all available here, well priced and with quite a big sit-in area. All we need are more places like this and one day the wretched Greggs may be no more. -

This is a fairly new bakery and cafe on Union Street right outside Central Station. I'd heard good things about this bakers, so paid it a visit yesterday.
A scone with butter and jam was only £2.90. I tried to ignore the sign advertising the soup of the day as "potatoe and leek" as i made my way to find a seat. I'm sure "chips" is the first word of many a toddler, so how in the next 40 or so years this can't evolve to learning how to spell potato I don't know.
Anyway, there was a varied crowd in here: a business meeting appeared to be taking place at one table, while at the next table, a mum and daughter bonded over tea and pastries. There were quite a few empty tables so you can imagine my dismay when a large rowdy family plonked themselves next to me. While the dad put his full elbow grease and enthusiasm into picking his nose, the kids enquired in grating accents if they were still in Scotland.
I turned to my latte and enjoyed lavishly hoovering up the froth. The scone was soft and crumbly - most of it probably ended up on the floor. The floor was otherwise clean, as was the rest of the place, and I found the fresh minimal decor relaxing and inviting.
So, the coffee was good, the scone was lovely, but there did appear to be an unfortunate abundance of morons when I visited.
